33. The Alliance

The courtyard lights seemed to stretch our shadows into long, distorted lines as the guards escorted So-min through the wall gate. She walked with her head held high, though her eyes locked onto Rora and Da-eun with a heavy, shared silent understanding. The game was truly over.

"Move," one of the security personnel directed firmly, gesturing toward the grand, double-paneled mahogany doors of the Kim estate’s main hall.

As the doors swung open, the sheer scale of the gathering inside became clear. The main hall was cavernous, illuminated by a massive crystal chandelier that cast a sharp, sterile light over everyone present.

Standing near the center of the polished marble floor, looking entirely out of place but visibly shaken, were In-ah and Do-hyun. In-ah’s hands were clenched at her sides, her detective's badge heavy on her belt but completely useless in a room owned entirely by the city's elite. Do-hyun stood beside her, his face pale, his eyes darting to Da-eun with a mixture of intense fear and heartbreak. They had been brought here to witness the fallout.

To the right, seated on the plush leather sofas, were Woo-jin and Ha-yun. Woo-jin didn't look at us; his gaze was fixed entirely on the floor, his jaw tight with a quiet, helpless frustration. Ha-yun, conversely, watched our entrance with wide, anxious eyes, her fingers nervously tracing the hem of her jacket.

The four families—the Kims, the Parks, and the heads of the remaining two core factions—formed a strict, silent semicircle around the room. Chae-won stood slightly elevated on the stairs behind Seo-jun, Min-jun, and Ji-hoon, her expression completely detached.

Principal Park stepped forward from the shadows of the high pillars, a folder of academic records firmly under his arm.

"Every anomaly, every network ping from the past month, and every proximity breach has been thoroughly logged," Seo-jun announced, his voice echoing flawlessly off the high marble walls. "The illusion of your ordinary student lives ends tonight."

The room grew suffocatingly quiet. In-ah took a step forward, her voice tight as she looked at Rora and Da-eun. "I told you both to let it go. I told you the past was dangerous."

"They didn't listen," Chae-won said from the stairs, her voice cold and resonant. "And now, the alliance will decide exactly how to ensure Sector-04 stays buried forever."

Seo-jun stepped into the center of the grand hall, the harsh light of the chandelier catching the sharp angles of his face. He looked down at the three of us, his expression shifting from cold authority to a calculated, solemn calm.

"You want the truth so badly," Seo-jun began, his voice echoing off the marble pillars. "Fine. We will give it to you. But look around this room. Look at what your obsession has wrought."

Min-jun and Ji-hoon moved to stand beside him, their expressions equally grim. The heads of the families remained silent, an uneasy tension rippling through the semicircle.

"Seven years ago, Sector-04 wasn't a prison or a corporate vault," Seo-jun said, crossing his arms. "It was the central collaborative hub for the alliance. But greed fractured us. The families fought. Bitter, structural disagreements broke out over the direction of the city's infrastructure and data control. It became an ideological war that threatened to destroy everything our parents had built."

Chae-won watched from the stairs, her jaw tight.

"The alliance didn't bury Sector-04 to hide a crime," Seo-jun continued, his tone carrying a strange, heavy weight. "We buried it to seal away the conflict. We chose to dissolve the old pact and walk away from the wreckage. It was a mutual retreat. What you are digging up isn't a dark secret—it’s just the volatile history of a broken partnership. It is not your fault that the past is messy, but you needed to know the truth so you would finally understand why we cannot let you reopen those wounds."

There was no mention of J.Y. or Y.E. No mention of the hidden letters or the deep, systemic anomalies Rora had flagged in the encrypted logs. They were giving us half the truth—a carefully tailored narrative designed to make us drop the hunt out of sheer exhaustion.

Da-eun took a sharp breath, her eyes flashing with skepticism. She opened her mouth to ask the burning question—If it was just a corporate disagreement, why the trackers? Why the lockdown?—but the words never left her throat.

CRASH.

The massive, reinforced stained-glass windows at the eastern face of the hall suddenly shattered inward. A violent, concussive boom rocked the foundations of the villa, throwing the heavy crystal chandelier into a wild, frantic swing. Black smoke and sharp, pressurized air rushed into the cavernous room.

"Get down!" Do-hyun shouted, throwing himself forward to shield the younger students.

Before the security team could even draw their batons, a secondary breach echoed from the courtyard. In the absolute chaos of the flashing alarms and blinding smoke, two figures moved with instantaneous, protective instinct.

In-ah lunged forward, her training overriding the shock as she forcefully pulled Da-eun and Rora behind a heavy, overturned mahogany table, using her own body as a shield against the cascading glass. Simultaneously, Chae-won bolted down the stairs, grabbing So-min by the jacket and dragging her into the structural cover of the stone pillar just as a heavy fragment of the ceiling collapsed onto the marble floor.

Through the thick, rising smoke and the wail of the estate's tactical alarms, the shadows of unknown intruders began to breach the perimeter. The alliance hadn't just been compromised—they were under active siege.
