22. The Coordinates

On the other side of the secure network, So-min's text box remained stationary for a long, heavy moment after Rora pasted the coordinates from the gala book.

Then, her status light flared a violent, erratic green.

[So-min]: [04.12.98] Sector-04, Sub-Level B. I knew it. I knew the structural blueprints they gave us in architecture elective were missing a localized grid weight.

Before her thumbs could even finish typing, So-min reached for her secondary tablet. She didn't open a standard commercial map app. She initialized a multi-layered, militarized VPN client she had compiled herself, bouncing her digital signature across seven encrypted server nodes located entirely outside the country's jurisdiction.

To the Kim family's external perimeter trackers, it would look like an automated bot in Northern Europe was performing a routine latency check on a public satellite tile.

With her location masked, So-min booted up a custom mapping tool, forcing a deep-penetration wireframe layer directly over the satellite imagery of Seoul Academy. Click to open side panel for more information.

The screen flickered, casting a grid of sharp lines across her face as the application attempted to cross-reference the old physical code Sector-04, Sub-Level B with the modern, locked-down courtyard layout. Because Chae-won had warned them away from the initials, the mapping software bypassed the encrypted security overlays entirely, focusing purely on old architectural density maps from 2019.

A red, geometric wireframe slowly began to assemble itself beneath the central courtyard, creeping directly under the fountain structure.

[So-min]: [04.12.98] The digital map is locking. The Kim network isn't flagging it because I'm querying legacy civil engineering data, not their active security nodes. The entrance isn't inside the school building at all. Look at the structural weight distribution.

A tiny, flashing crosshair blinked right on the edge of the campus perimeter line—disguised perfectly beneath the concrete maintenance access panel near the old utility shed.

[So-min]: [04.12.98] We have the backdoor. It completely circumvents the biometric scanners at the main courtyard gate. But we have to move before the Kims do a manual sweep of the legacy routing tables.

The sudden, sharp rattle of a key turning in the front door lock shattered the silence of the house.

Da-eun’s head snapped toward the staircase. "In-ah," she breathed, her voice a sharp whisper of panic.

Rora didn't waste a split second to reply. In one fluid, practiced motion, she snatched her laptop off the bed, grabbed the heavy, fabric-bound gala book from the desk, and gestured frantically toward the door. They bolted out of the hallway, their socks sliding silently over the hardwood floor as they raced up the stairs and back into the safety of their bedroom.

The heavy front door swung open downstairs just as Rora clicked their bedroom door shut, sliding the latch into place without making a sound.

They stood frozen against the wall, chests heaving, listening to the heavy, familiar thud of In-ah’s boots on the entryway mat. Downstairs, the rustle of a heavy coat being hung up echoed through the quiet house, followed by the steady, measured footsteps of a detective walking into the kitchen to check on the dining table.

Safe inside the room, Rora dropped to her knees, carefully sliding the stolen gala book deep beneath her mattress. She scrambled to her desk, flipped open her laptop, and pulled up her standard chemistry coursework before letting out a long, shaky breath.

Above them, the attic ladder was closed, the dust had settled, and the physical map to Sector-04, Sub-Level B was locked safely in their heads. They were back in character, perfectly hidden, just as In-ah’s footsteps began to move toward the stairs.

The bedroom door clicked open, and In-ah stood in the doorway, her shoulders tense from a long day at the precinct. Her sharp, analytical eyes immediately swept the room, taking in every detail with the practiced efficiency of a seasoned detective.

Da-eun was hunched over her desk, a highlighter clamped between her teeth as she scribbled notes into a thick chemistry workbook. Next to her, Rora was rapidly typing on her laptop, a split-screen window displaying complex molecular structures and a half-finished lab report. The room smelled faintly of highlighters and cold tea—the universal markers of stressed high school students.

In-ah leaned against the doorframe, the hard, suspicious edge in her posture finally softening. For weeks, she had been worried about the girls getting caught up in the dangerous undercurrents of the elite families. But looking at them now, completely buried in textbooks and school deadlines, a wave of genuine relief washed over her.

They weren't digging into the Kims. They weren't hunting down old corporate files. They were just kids trying to survive midterms.

"Still up?" In-ah asked, her voice dropping its usual authoritative bite, replaced by a quiet, maternal warmth. "You two need to sleep. Your brains are going to fry before the exam tomorrow."

Da-eun looked up, blinking sleepily as she pulled the highlighter from her mouth. "Just finishing the organic chemistry review. Rora's helping me format the lab data."

"Eat the food I left?" In-ah checked, glancing toward the hallway.

"Every bite. The soup was exactly what we needed," Rora lied smoothly, offering a tired, convincing smile as she closed a tab on her screen. "We're wrapping up now, unnie."

"Good. Don't push it too late," In-ah said, nodding approvingly before stepping back into the hall. "I'm heading to bed. Wake me if you need anything."

As the door clicked shut and In-ah’s footsteps faded down the hall toward her own room, Da-eun and Rora let out a synchronized, silent breath. The alibi had held. In-ah was completely convinced, and the Kims were still entirely blind inside the house.

Rora immediately pulled up the encrypted micro-chat, sending a single, rapid sequence to So-min’s waiting terminal:

[Rora]: [Archive-True] We are completely in the clear. Green light for tomorrow morning.
