The Lore: The Seven-Year Pact

To understand why the alliance between the four powerful families shattered, we have to look back seven years ago—to a massive scandal that threatened to ruin them all.

To save their empires, the oldest siblings took matters into their own hands, dividing the tasks to bury the truth forever. One engineered the financial cover-up to move massive amounts of untraceable money through offshore accounts. Another used high-end corporate connections to erase names, scrub guest lists, and alter public records. A third acted as the enforcer, ensuring everyone stayed in line and accepting a massive anonymous payout to secure their silence. Finally, In-ah kept the ultimate proof—the journals, the data logs, and the keys to the physical evidence—hidden away as leverage to ensure no family would ever betray the others.

They made a formal pact: cut all ties, pretend to be strangers, and bury the secret forever. If one family falls, they all fall together. For seven years, the secret stayed buried. The younger siblings—Da-eun, Rora, and So-min—were left completely in the dark, forced to grow up wondering why their childhood best friends suddenly became strangers.

The Broken Alliance

However, the truth is even deeper. Seven years ago, two key figures from one of the families vanished completely. Before they left, they swore a final, chilling vow to the older siblings: the moment they returned, everything the four families built on their lies would be utterly destroyed. Contrary to what the younger girls think, the alliance didn't shatter the exact night those individuals disappeared. The families actually tried to carry on, continuing their lives and maintaining their powerful front while pretending those two never existed. But the vow poisoned them from the inside. Paranoia took root. As the years crawled by, the older siblings began to deeply suspect one another of secretly communicating with the banished pair or plotting a betrayal. Unable to handle the mounting distrust, the alliance finally fractured completely, and they went their separate ways.

Today, the younger siblings simply refer to the grand collapse of their families' friendships as "the same night they left." To Da-eun, Rora, and So-min, it's just a tragic timestamp when everything changed. They have no idea that the date actually marks the beginning of a countdown.

And now, exactly seven years later, the mysterious anonymous texts and the arrival of a dangerous stranger signal that the vow is finally being kept. The past is coming back to collect its debt.
